Our Request of You…
Now, more than ever, we are looking toward the future. Certainly
all of us recognize the immediate needs of the parish. We look to the Members
of our Parish Family to reflect upon the efforts of past generations of Catholics who, through their personal sacrifice, have
enabled us to worship and grow in our faith. Our Faith Community was called upon
in the early 1960's to support the building of the Church House, School and Convent.
We now call upon our Faith Community in the early years of this new century to support these parish renovations with
the same enthusiasm and generosity. We are confident that with the renovation
and other capital improvements, the Parish of Our Lady of Perpetual Help will continue its ministry to the Oakland
community and create a lasting legacy for the future.
Our parish is much more than the buildings where we gather. Giving
to the campaign is one way to make an investment in the future of our parish and its people.
This is an opportunity for all parishioners to become more closely united as a parish family, to individually and as
a community recommit to our Catholic faith. Acting together as one people of
God, we make our parish stronger by caring for our gifts and giving a return to God in gratitude.
It is critical to the success of this campaign that all families consider making a pledge. By making pledges over three years, parishioners can adjust their payment schedules to suit personal circumstances. The pledges will provide the confidence for us to complete the project in a timely
manner without burdening the parish with debt.
While most people think first of completing a pledge form or writing a check when making a contribution,
charitable gifts may also take other forms. Whether gifts are outright or deferred,
the personal satisfaction received from charitable giving is rewarding and tax advantages may be substantial. The following gift methods are offered as possibilities when making your commitment.
Cash/Checks
Pledges
— Pledge payments may be made over a three to five year pledge period. Multi-year
pledges enable the donor to contribute a larger gift than would be possible in any one-tax year.
Credit
Cards/Direct Debit of Checking Account — Payments may be made using a credit card.
Direct debit to your personal checking account may also be arranged. Click here for more information...
Stocks
— Many investors have assets in the form of stocks or securities that they should consider donating rather than cash. There are tax benefits to giving securities directly to Our Lady of Perpetual Help
rather than selling them. You can donate appreciated securities that you’ve
owned for at least a year to the Campaign for their full market value. You receive
credit for the full market value of the gift on the day it is made, and you avoid capital-gains tax. In other words, donating $5,000 in stocks for which you paid $1,000 entitles you to a tax deduction of
$5,000! Since you are making a charitable gift, there is no capital-gains taxes
due on the $4,000 appreciation.
